cannot write PID to var/run/news

Completely new to Linux. My server mailbox is full of messages that say "cannot write PID to /var/run/news/shlock4495(example), no space left on device. I'm not sure what this means or if it's a problem, but it occurs hourly and is taking up too much space in my mailbox. I also get another one that says "Original message received from localhost, with all message information, the following address has fatal errors, news".

I could use some advice.

Is your /var partition full? Try running df -h to see how much space you have left on that partition. From the message it's giving it sounds like it doesn't have any space left to create new files. If it's not that then you might want to check if the mail program has permission to create files in /var/run/news.
