Question Squid and Yahoo messanger

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to know if there is a way to block yahoo and MSN messanger for clients accessing internet from my squid proxy server ? Iam using RedHat 6.2 .

I tried following things in access control list of my squid conf file:

1.Blocked port 5050 and 23
2.Blocked following via url_regex :
1.gateway.dll
2.msg.edit.yahoo.com
3.http.pager.yahoo.com

But still users are able to use yahoo messanger .

How do i block both yahoo messanger and MSN ?

Can i accomplish this without using ipchains ?

Thanks in advance for all the help you people will extend.

With Regards ,
Vipul.

I have setup a full iptables firewall and still unable to block yahoo and msn because they will go through any available port as i know it.

I am now trying to use Squid to do it but finding it very hard (if i newey at this which doesnt help)

I am using RH9 and could use some help... keep me updated if u get any responces.
what is the string you are blocking the ports with?

I tried this (maybe u can get this working)

# Put this is your squid.conf file (will have to change the folder i think)
# Banned sites and Services
acl banned url_regex "/usr/local/squid/etc/banned.txt"

then create the txt file and place the list like so:
.messenger.yahoo.com
.msg.yahoo.com

Maybe this will help you but it didnt work for me unfortunately

Talking

Try this, in your squid.conf file insert the following line.
acl yahoo dstdomain pager.yahoo.com
acl yahoo dstdomain shttp.msg.yahoo.com
acl yahoo dstdomain update.messenger.yahoo.com
acl yahoo dstdomain update.pager.yahoo.com
http_access deny yahoo

This works with my proxy server. no need of other configuration on your iptables.

Cheersss!!!! mabuhay..
