hi,

i'm testing my ftp server, when connecting to it i get the following:

bash-2.05b# ftp localhost
Connected to localhost.
421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection
ftp>

anyone know whats wrong? or how can i fix it?

is proftpd running? there's a good guide for proftpd here at LQ posted by one of the mods. try searching for it.

If you are running proftpd from inetd then you might want to look at /etc/hosts.allow to see if your IP address is allowed to connect to the server.
