what would be best linux for sony vaio?

Can anybody tell me what linux is best for Sony Vaio? I am a beginner, so I don't know how to recompile the kernel etc. I just want to boot from cd rom and would like to have full benefit from GNU. By the way, red hat 9 does not work under vaio within my knowledge - beginner. :-) Please, recomend sth for me. Thank you.

Go for Suse. Redhat is hard to install with vaio. I haven't tried to install Mandrake. However, still you need to deal with some problem. Good luck!

vaio

I had no problem's whatsoever with installing Red Hat 9.0 on my vaio laptop. PCG-F520. I have also had Mandrake 9.1 installed with no problem's. Everything was recognized on both distro's, and worked great.

additional info for my question

Oops I forgot to mention my computer is PCG-R505GL. It is different with F series. "It has docking station and is firewired so it loose the kernel infomation" I read this from somewhere web. I am still doing research(?) for preperation of installing linux. I, therefore, still need a log of replies from whole this community. Helpful comments will be appreciated.

I've run linux on two vaios (FX401 and FR285M) and my preferred distro so far has to be slackware 9. Red hat is also good but terribly slow compared to slack. Slackware can be a bit daunting at first but stick with it and it's not too hard (the book at www.slackware.org is very good).

I run RedHat 9 on my Vaio PCG-GR300K and I've never really had any install problems outside of the monitor being unprobed. That took a minimal amount of reconfig of X. It seems that people really like Slackware so I may just switch to that. (I just got my system back from service so I'm actually typing this only one hour after reinstalling RH9 on a totally fresh system). Do the other distros have the same RHN (up2date) service that RedHat does or has anyone heard of Red Carpet (?) from Ximian?
