Thanks for the link. I was also interested to see that there are many posts about this problem. However, from looking over some of the posts, there seem to be various issues that could be happening. I did read the article linked above and while it offered some thoughts for shutting the system down, it didn't seem to mention what to do to stop the restarts. My system shuts down fine but then it restarts, as if I'd clicked the restart button instead of the shutdown button.
I did find a couple of pages I might try --
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1321.../135568#135568 and
https://unix.stackexchange.com/quest...-on-linux-mint .
The first page seems to recommend adding a command, (or commands) to the boot loader. The second page talks about different components in the computer causing the rebooting problem. I am not a computer technician, nor do I work on computers for a hobby, so I don't have a much of a feeling about whether either of the pages will put me on the right track. If anyone has a thought about these recommendations, please let me know.
An alternative solution might be to install another flavor of Ubuntu since I only installed Ubuntu Studio last Saturday -- might that be a solution?
