Unhappy Toshiba Sat 5205-s505

Hi everyone !

I just brought a Toshiba Satellite 5205-s505, have Mandrake 9.1 installed, but the acpi don't start, have no sound (i think for the acpi problem). I had it working once in the time but trying to tiny the kernel a little bit, i forgot how i let it work, i need some tips, please !

Everything works fine, except sound, acpi and DVD-Xine

kernel: 2.4.21-0.13mdk

Thanks !

??? so everything worked until you compiled a new kernel? if so then maybe you left out acpi? or what. what does your boot log say? could you post it? i dodnt get xine to play dvds either i went with ogle, the install and setup instructions are clearer.

but did this work before you change the kernel? i remember seeing something about the i810 chip set... it may need some thing in the kernel that you missed that it would do while installing on its own. look closer through the config when setting up the kernel for i810 items. i remeber seeing a few.

when you redid your kernel did you use the old config file?

and on your steps:
make dep && make clean && make bzImage && make install && make modules && make modules_install

it seems you might be missing a couple?

At last !

After nnn times to install and rebuil the kernel, my pillow told me that maybe stopping the sound service would be fine. Well !!!! i stop the sound service, reinstall the acpi module, deinstall xine and install it again with all the libraries supported by xine, and.........Voilą.!!

Everything is working, when i turn on the computer with the sound service stopped, the acpi started to work, and then i start the sound service and restarted the computer... this is the method that works for me.

Thanks for every help, if you know any person that i can help tunning these kind of laptops, feel free to cantac me
