This may not be not be a software issue.

It's a shot in the dark, but most of the laptops I've used have a hardware switch, usually on a function key, for switching among monitors. Commonly, it rotates between the built-in monitor, the external monitors, both monitors the same display, and both monitors different displays.

Yes, but the OP won't tell us what kind of monitor. As noted, it appears to be a displaylink/USB monitor, so such keys for external laptop video aren't in play. We don't know, because the OP won't answer.
