nic wont init

I am having probs w/ a netgear fa411 pcmcia nic, i was running rh 8.0 and tried installing cpanel, after reboot, nic wont even try to initialize, and get errors trying to start x, OK fine, wipe clean new install rh 7.2, install cpanell (www.cpnel.net) reboot , same thing
nic doesnt even try to start and errors on startx
not really too concernd about getting into kde , but some help getting the nic to init would be great

I was actaually able to get the card started by cd /etc/init.d ,
and running ./pcmcia start . started right up, now to work on geting back into x , kinda hard to believe id go throught all this crap for a 15 day license. But i guess thats the best way for a newbie to learn
