Low WiFi signal on Bangho Notebook

Hey everyone. Just came back on Linux on my new Notebook. I'm on 19.1 Tessa, and the WiFi signal is really low (around 60%). I'm literally a few steps from my router. What can I do to improve it? :|

I heard there might be a problem with the drive and the antenna selection, but I have no idea how to fix it. Please help, since having a signal so weak makes my notebook unusable. Thanks in advanced for any help.

antenna is hardware, it is what picks up the signal, bad antenna, bad signal. The quantity of derogation then depends on the quality of the antenna, and how many are being used to pick up a signal in order to improve on the derogation.

i'm guessing, but something is telling me it could a rebranded CLEVO laptop.
please find that out, then edit your thread title. it will enable more people to help you.

I have tried the rfkill command, here is the output. PS: I have no idea how to know if it is a rebranded CLEVO (the pc is, indeed, a national argentinian laptop).

I have a different chipset, but it has connections for 2 antennae, but only 1 actual antennae. By default the driver selects the wrong one. But the driver has an ant_sel=# parameter to select the other one. Which greatly improves my signal strength, otherwise I was looking at 24/70 as the best quality / signal strength. You might check your modinfo for your module / driver for a similar option. Or wait six+ months for the driver to implement auto-selection, and hopefully it works correctly. Of course run something recent and update/upgrade or it doesn't matter when you're stuck in the past.

sudo modprobe -v iwlwifi  ant_sel=2

If it doesn't help change ant_sel=2 to ant_sel=1.
If it works then can make it permenant by creating a /etc/modprobe.d/50-iwlfifi.config file with this in it

It doesn't have ant_sel. But it does have power_level (1-5 default: 1) and antenna_coupling (default: 0 dB). No idea what, if anything, those things do.

Try 'sudo iwconfig wlan0' in a terminal. It should show if you're connected, and what the Quality is. It will be xx/70. post what it says.

Hey everyone, sorry for being so late. So I'm trying to fix this again. The sudo modprobe -v iwlwifi ant_sel=2 yield no results in the wi fi strength. The 'sudo iwconfig wlan0' shows no result either and it simply says "no device". Is there anything else I can try? I'm even willing to change the distro if it solves the issue.

lspci to see if it shows a wifi card.

do you or can you open up your netbook and if it has a wifi card that you can remove, try reseating it (remove then put it back in). check your connections carefully so as to not break anything.

basically check to verify you even have the hardware.
