Please surround terminal output with "code" tags, which become available from the menu when you click the "Go Advanced" button beneath the compose/edit post window.

If the primary issue is that the machine is slow, the issue may be having only 2GB RAM; that's marginal with most desktop environments these days. What desktop environment are you using?

Otherwise, please be more precise about what issues you are dealing with.

Hi,

as frankbell already stated the 2 GB of RAM is likely to the limiting factor. I guess it is not enough for Mate.
There are other lightweight options with Debian.

See https://wiki.debian.org/LXDE and/or https://wiki.debian.org/Xfce

There should be no need to reinstall your OS.

It's correct the memory is until 2Gb, I recently switch to lightDM always with MATE and the performance is better but I will install the version Xfce...Thank you.

It's not just the RAM.
This is an old 10" netbook (eeePC), just about everything about it is too slow or too small.
I suspect MATE simply isn't light enough for it, and neither will XFCE be.

I would recommend antiX with a fluxbox desktop. Search distrowatch.com.

BTW, the modern WWW will always be unbearably slow on this netbook, no matter the distro.

Great little machine though!

uniquechip,

I have a similar Samsung N220 with the same CPU and 2GB RAM.

It works fine with MX Linux (MX-19.3_x64):

Thanks for all your answers.

Keep Debian 10 Mate
Here solved:

1. Debian 10 by default install GDM or GDM3
2. Mate environment works fine with LightDM (DM=Display manager)
3. Installation DM:
Code:
sudo apt install lightdm
4. Reconfigure Display manager:
Code:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm3
and menu select lightdm.

5. Repository add to lines contrib non-free:
Code:
sudo nano /etc/apt/source.list
here sample:
Code:
deb http://deb.debian.org/debian buster main contrib non-free
deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian buster main contrib non-free

deb http://deb.debian.org/debian-security/ buster/updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian-security/ buster/updates main contrib non-free

deb http://deb.debian.org/debian buster-updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian buster-updates main contrib non-free
and update y upgrade repositories
Code:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
Here website:https://wiki.debian.org/SourcesList
6. Drivers legacy for intel i915 your must install
Code:
sudo apt install firmware-linux
7. Optimization SSD add noatime:
Code:
sudo nano /etc/fstab
here sample:
Code:
 # / was on /dev/sda1 during installation
UUID=(this number no modify) /               ext4   noatime,errors=remount-ro 0       1
# swap was on /dev/sda5 during installation
UUID=(this number no modify) none swap sw 0 0
Here website:https://wiki.debian.org/%20SSDOptimization%20
8. Applied all configurations SSD and Graphic driver video
Code:
sudo update-initramfs -u -k all
9. Reboot OS Debian
