Unhappy Display Problems with Toshiba Satellite A20 and Mandrake 9.1

hi all,
I recently bought a toshiba satellite a20 with the following specs
p4 - 3.06GHz
512 MB RAM
Trident Cyberaladdin P4 video card - 32MB
etc etc..

I've managed to install both RH 9.0 and Mandrake 9.1 with little trouble. The only glitch is the screen - the desktop is shifted to the top left hand corner, and there is a black margin left on the bottom and right hand sides. I've tried messing around with screen resolutions etc...but havent managed to fix the problem.

I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem? and what you did to fix it?

thanks

Unhappy not an answer but a question

I have to install linux in my laptop cause i need it for school; i also have a satellite a20, but mine is a sp259. i was wondering if you had any problems with the hardware besides the screen shifting to the left. I was thinking about installing suse, since it lets me hear MP3 from my windows partition using samba. I also have redhat 9, but cant hear mp3 there. any advice would be great

good luck with the screen thing. if i see something about that iŽll post it here.

hope this helps

hey,

i've managed to get linux to use the whole screen - but there are still a few glitches. still working on it.

most of the hardware works. i would recommend mandrake because it seems to detect and install most things. (including the wireless card)

the reason mp3 wont work with redhat is to do with the legal side of things, basically they supply a neutered version of xmms.

any linux distribution will allow you to access your windows partition - you just have to mount it appropriately.

have you got linux installed yet? or are you going to try? let me know how you go.

regards,
pd
