I would normally say that there is no way that XP did anything to your BIOS, however I had a similar problem after installing XP several months ago. It's detailed in this thread:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=425088

I had to flash the bios across the network to get it to work again. I had first tried a Windows exe file that updated the BIOS, but as soon as I rebooted, I got a message saying that XP needed to reboot because of configuration changes. I was still having the problem. I found a network BIOS flash program and did that, and it finally fixed my problem. Details in the thread I mentioned.

Thanks for your help but it seems to be working so far with RH 6.0 will try RH 7.3

Turns out that I needed to go to /etc/ld.so.conf and add a line to direct svga to /usr/local/lib and re compile. The error statement here said that the program could not locate a library file but that file did not exist. The change followed by a new compile fixed the problem

Also I found a good discussion on using locate and updatedb to find all the old files so they could be deleted. ( search on Linrad)

The interesting thing is that the problems seem to be not unique to svgalib but to be shared by many applications. Some of my answers were posted for GGI which had the same problems.
