I don't have a solution for this but just advice: LMDE is not Mint's "production" release per se. It is an experiment to see how viable it would be to base Mint on Debian as opposed to Ubuntu, which is ironically also based on Debian...

If you are looking for a stable Cinnamon distro, I would personally try the cinnamon release of Mint or cinnamon on plain Debian. My .02.
