Well, with that Beast of a Box you have, if your gonna run X itll be have to be something small like fluxbox and have plenty of swap space. You can run a server since its a lan connection you'll be a little safer, wont have to worry about your password flying past your ear on a microwave :-) with it sitting beside your router, you could do whatever you want with it. It could be a second authentication method for users logging into your nextwork with external logging to a remote server (since its not gonna hold much on its own) you could use it as a gateway to tunnel all of your traffic through and a firewall to protect your inside machines even more. Its really up to you and what you see happening with it. Mine has about the same specs, maybe a little more ram and fast processor, but not by much.. Im going to put a wifi card in it and just run LiveCDs from it. that makes 1 gig to put files and 2.5gig of software im running from a compressed OS distro.

Well, It sounds like GW Basic; as you know, GW made (some) money by putting a Basic Interpreter within a 8K ROM chip... enabling Basic to be run in 16K TRS-80īs...!!! Now it seems we got somebody to run Linux in small RAM with slow CPU wow... it sounds great specially if Damn Small Linux v. 6.2 seems so good. I will be a Newbie with it... next weekend will download it... Wish me luck... Now, where is the Damn Small Window Like GUI...or (DSWLGUI?)...
