Exactly, I have the same problem, the only to install Linux is the ACPI=off option in setup, and by then, Linux loads without it.
I have a Toshiba L505D-S986 and have the same situation, I couldn't adjust the monitor brightness, and it all depends on the ACPI.
Maybe i'll wait for a Kernel update or Toshiba release a BIOS update, because I'm not going anywhere, because I already tried everything, for the meantime, I'll get boring with Windows 7
.
Other Symptoms:
With ACPI=off
- No brightness adjustment on the monitor.
- Loads fine.
- Fan runs slower.
- Wireless card works.
- Hard drive detected
With ACPI=on
- Boot screen with a lot of errors.
- Doesn't load to GDM.
With both options, the computer doesn't restart or shutdown at all, have to force shutdown with power button, witch is no good.
With other ACPI option fails and load with ACPI=off
There is no way to adjust anything in the BIOS beside basic stuffs like Hard drive or boot order, no ACPI or power management at all.
