I bought an HP Chromebook 14 G5 from a friend. I thought that installing Linux on it would be easy. I had one of the original CR-48's. It was easy...
I've used Chrome OS for a bit, but I'm starting to get tired of my info being vacu-sucked all the time. So, time to install a real Linux distro.
I can't figure out how to even access the BIOS on this thing to have it boot from USB, and my search-fu doesn't seem to be up to the task.
I have already put it in developer mode.
I have already set dev_boot_usb=1 and dev_boot_legacy=1.
Tried CTRL-U and CTRL-L at the OS protection screen. Still no BIOS.
I have attacked a text file of my chrome://system page.
If y'all have any other ideas, I would be grateful.
I have never used a chromebook, but most laptops of all kinds I have seen allow getting to the bios by using F1, F2, F10, ESC, or DELETE.
I would try booting and using one of those keys (or other function keys) until I found the one that allows opening up the bios menu.
A quick google search for 'hp chromebook g5 bios' gave me several leads.

There is no accessing the bios until you flash a full bios onto it. By deafult the ChromeOS controls all the boot options, there is no true "BIOS" otherwise. You'd need to make sure that write protection was off and flash an aftermarket firmware onto it (ie - mr chromebox) assuming it was compatible.
Thank you, Mr. Miller. Looks like there is more research to be done.
