http://gphoto.sourceforge.net/proj/l...o2/support.php

Of course, you can always just spend $280, get the camera you want, and pick up a $20 USB Compact Flash adapter, and almost all of them are supported.

Cheers,

Spoken like a true Hardware man fin

That's exactly what I'd say as well. Get the most camera you can for your money, find out the media it writes to, make sure you can get a USB adaptor for it, and go from there. I have proprietary Sony cards running on mine, so one would think if I can get that running with little to no problems, shouldn't be too rough using something a little more universal.

Cool

I got something that uses compact flash, and I have a pcmcia->compact flash adaptor

works like a charm. one of the big selling points I have in a digital camear is compact flash, that 1g microdrive really does it for me...very useful when your palm, camera, and notebook have a common 1gig I can use between them...

I picked up a Sony DSC-P50 (last year's model - good deal) which works with either the included USB cable (as mass storage) or with an external reader for the MemoryStick media. (My Clie uses memory sticks too so I have lots of sticks for storage now).

You should also look at the battery setup for your camera. I got a Li-ion battery and charger as I was burning through AA 8-packs like a madman.

Also picked up a couple of wide angle converters and filters for it (37mm mount).

I've been using it with Kernel 2.4.16 and up with no probs.

McLeodnine, where'd you get your filters and converters? And do you have any suggestions on what kind of lens/filter to get to take better "night" pics?

I have a DSC-S50, the daddy to your model It's more like the 3 or 4 years ago model. Works great though, and the only problem I've come up with lately is trying to take shots of the moonset, and stars and such.

Night pics? Always a spotty image. I haven't done much in low-light, but if you're using a tripod and can manually over-expose then it might be better. One thing I do in low-light is use a manual focus (another override option in the camera) but you are limited to 4 or five choices up to infinity.

Pretty much any camera store - the converters are used for video cameras. I got a polarized filter as most of my shots are outdoors on a shiny surface. That's why I had to get a rechargable system as I can't see the orientation of the filter thru the viewfinder - I have to use the LCD (power eater!)

If you've got a screw-mount on your optics then you should be able to find an adapter.
