Sound Blaster Live Value & Slack8.0

Hi folks,

T-Bird 1.1G
A7V MB
Generic NIC ether card
32 MG Radeon Le DDR
SoundBlasterLive!Value
Slackware 8.0

Everything works great except sound. I checked out some threads and found one advising to:
pnpdump --config > isapnp.conf
then, isapnp /etc/isapnp.conf

when I checked my isapnp.conf , it was full of messages like

trying port "number"
trying port "number" etc......

and no usable port was found. I've heard you can get conflicts b/w ether and sound cards. Anyway, it would be great to have sound so any help is much appreciated in advance.

thx milos

Since the Live! SB is probably a PCI card, don't worry about the ISA stuff. Since Slack does not use sndconfig or setup sound by default, do this as root or superuser:

cd /etc/rc.d
edit the rc.modules file, scroll down to sound support and remove the # sign in front of /sbin/modprobe/emu10k1 then save the file
now everytime you boot the sound module will load and you should be golden. If you don't want to wait until your next boot just do:

modprobe emu10k1
you should be good to go.

side-note: your users probably won't hear sound until you set the proper permissions to the device files applicable to sound in the /dev directory, namely:

dsp dsp1 audio audio1 mixer mixer1 sequencer sequencer2 midi00 thru 03
