Question Random total system crash

I've previously written about the problem regarding broken HD. At this thread I had also the other problem related to total system crash which happens sort of randomly.

System:
-A8V mobo (latest BIOS)
-X2 4400+
-Graphic cards:
-ATI RV280 gfx (9200 or something)
-NVidia GeForce 6200 (current one)
-2x 500GB SATA

The crash when it happens is total. Everything freezes: tasks, services, X - everything. Only way to get out from this is to shutdown or reset the computer.

There is nothing in /var/log/messages either so it seems to be related to hardware (motherboard) instead of software. This is just a feeling atm.

I have tried to add acpi=off, noapic etc. normal parameters to kernel parameters at boot but the result was even worse! I could not even get the system up and running. acpi=off resulted black screen at quite early stage of booting. The other managed to boot up almost till the end before crashing. This further strengthens the feeling that it is mobo related problem.

I have found a way to repeat the crash. Following url (there's another one with same effect):
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...e/9b0c9b44.png

causes system to crash immediately if I click the tab in Firefox to be visible. Everything is fine if the content is just loaded but once it is tried to be shown then it crashes.

Also, sometimes the system crashes when browsing web site and scrolling page with mouse wheel. It doesn't crash if I move the scroll bar but if I use the wheel then it does sometimes. This gives an indication of X-related problem, which can lead to acpi if I have understood correctly.

Anyhow, I'm pretty much lost with the problem. I've tried to google a lot but no real solution have been found. If there is no solution found then I most likely have to buy new mobo + required cards..

Hopefully someone can give help on this problem.

TIA!

Finally I had some time to test this. Downloaded SuSe 10.3 KDE live. I didn't even manage to get network configured before it crashed completely like the installed one. Yast2 was running (I was configuring the network) while it crashed. Firefox was also started but it did not show any page yet.

Seems that the problem is related to gfx card driver. After installing NVidia's drivers I haven't had crash problems - at least with the links that used to crash. It's been up and running only for a short time so it may be too early to say the problem is fixed. Looks good atm.
