Nvidia Driver works with MX 200 but not FX 5500

I have two Nvidia Cards, one is a Geforce 2 MX200 the other is a Geforce FX 5500 both AGP. I've installed the Nvidia Module in Gentoo using portage, and Nvidia's own installation script. I'm currently using the modules provided by portage, but the same error occured in both instances.

My problem is that I can get the nvidia drivers to work with the MX200 card, but for some reason I can't get X to start with the 5500. I get an error in my Xorg.conf log

(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device!

I can get the 5500 working with both nv and vesa drivers, and I've had it working with Windows XP with nvidia provided drivers.

Any reason why one Nvidia card would work with the nvidia drivers but another card would not?
