Nvidia driver & Mandrake 9 problem

Hi,
I'm using mandrake 9 & just installed the Nvidia driver since I was not able to play any 3D games before that.
I didn't edit X86Fre... file, instead I trried to select the driver from mandrake control centre.
I'm using an old Riva M64, but the drivers only support GeForce range.
But even if I select Geforce, now most of the games run.

Does any body use Mandrake with a riva TNT and has installed the driver?
If so how did you configure it?

Thanx again.

there should be an archive of older nvidia drivers on the nvidia site

(if you don't edit the XFree86Config-4 file the driver won't be loaded and won't work)

it's very easy (once you know how)
there are LOADS of posts on this site telling you how to do this

give us a shout if you get stuck

These instructions worked for me in mandrake 10......

open KEdit. Choose to open a file, and browse to:

/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 (if XF86Config-4 exists, choose it. If not, choose XF86Config)

Now find where it says

Section "Module"

Here is what mine looks like (I am using GeForce4 MMX 440 128MB DDR):

Section "Module"
Load "dbe" # Double-Buffering Extension
Load "v4l" # Video for Linux
Load "extmod"
Load "type1"
Load "freetype"
Load "glx" # 3D layer

All you should have to do is delete the ## in front of Load 'glx'

Find where it says Driver 'nv' or whatever for your graphics card, and replace it with:

Driver "nvidia"

Save it, and you have now successfully installed and configured NVidia drivers. You should now restart your computer for the changes to take affect (you can restart X, but just go ahead and restart your computer... its easier)
