I'm having problems with my soundcard in ubuntu 8.10. The sound is not captured, whereas everything else is working properly. This is the data on my soundcard
Code:
$cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec
Codec: Analog Devices AD1884
Code:
$lspci -v
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 281e
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 21
Memory at f01a0000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel
Kernel modules:snd-hda-intel
I already tried to put "3stack" as an option in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base but this does not seem to work.
Use 'alsamixer -V all' to get more settings. While alsamixer is running, use audacity or the command 'arecord | hexdump' to test if it is capturing. During the recording, start adjusting mixer settings in alsamixer to get the sound card to capture audio.
Thanks Electrofor your advice.
I already played around with all alsamixer settings but without any success. I guess the solution is a bit more complicated that that.
Alsamixer is not very intuitive, but assuming you have tried all the possibilities there it is worth checking the file
Documentation/sound/alsa/ALSA-Configuration.txt
in the kernel source for any tweaks relevant to your sound interface. For example I found "model=6stack-hp" in the alsa-base file fixed my problems, even though the hardware was nothing to do with hp. (Since then the kernel code has improved the extent I don't need it anymore.)
Model name Description
...
AD1884A / AD1883 / AD1984A / AD1984B
desktop 3-stack desktop (default)
laptop laptop with HP jack sensing
mobile mobile devices with HP jack sensing
thinkpad Lenovo Thinkpad X300
AD1884
N/A
does this mean that there is no (not yet) support for my soundcard?

Reason: correct typo
Sorry, I don't know the answer to that. Perhaps you could try the options for those closely related chips. I can see you've got the latest Ubuntu distro. Is the m/b a new model? Often it takes several months for support to arrive, but the kernel doc is probably the place to look for it (except for Google of course).
