Creative SoundBlaster 4.1 Digital or Creative SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 Digital

Which of these is best to use in a Linux system?

Are they supported in ALSA? I know Soundblaster Live is supported but how about the Digital version, or is all Live cards 'Dagital'?

How about the SoundBlaster 4.1 Digital, it's a little cheaper.

SoundBlaster is a very common card, I'm sure they're all supported . If you want to be sure, you should check the chipsets included in the cards. The chipset is much more informative than the name of the card. Both the cards you list _probably_ use the emu10k1 chipset which is supported by alsa (and I have never had problems with the alsa drivers).

The emu10k1 driver is made to support all the Sound Blaster Live! cards from the original SB Live! cards to the newest Audigy 2 cards.

If you want to get a kiddy sound card get Creative Labs Soundblaster LIVE! 5.1. If you want a real sound card get something like Turtle Beach Santa Cruz or Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1. Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 is a very, very good card. The quality of the sound card will amaze you and your friends that has the Audigy2.
