CD/DVD-R Disc Drive support in Linux

Does Linux have pretty good support for various CD-R and DVD-R combo drives? What about just standard CD-R's and standard DVD-R's? I would be using the 2.6 kernel not 2.4 Thanks!

I have never used a combo drive, but most distros support them fine. As for normal CD and DVD drives, they work fine, so go ahead and get one.
