ok
Got home screensaver was on my Fedora 11_64 and the keyboard lights were flashing
it was locked up
power cycled the pc with the big Blue Power Button on front
the case, not the speakers, beeps three long beeps, then nothing
no e-machine splash screen or nothing
put install disk in to try recovery
same thing just beeps
anyone know what has happened and if it is reversable?
Something has gone out on your system ( or needs to be re-seated ). Here is a link to what the beeps mean, just have to find what kind of bios you have:
Could actually be the keyboard but I haven't had that stop the bios splash screen from displaying before but its worth unpluging and trying. For a guess, would also suspect the video card and ram if that does not work.
(If the machine is not under warranty and best done with a static wrist strap)
Disconnect everything from the motherboard except the power, ram and processor (and speakers) and try a boot and see of i get the beeps (Try not to touch any metal contacts on anything if possible). If you still get the same beeps then remove the ram and boot and finally the processor and boot. When the beep changes you have a possible culprit.
Hope this helps and good luck.

First
Thank ya'll
I think I got it
did the online chat with the emachine tech
he said it was memory "as in not installed properly"
and i have had trouble with this Kings*** memory before when i first got the box last year
first 2gig one stick had errors, sent replacement, which also had errors
run around from tech dudes about returns
i guess they just havent had that much experience with returns, being and industry leader for so long
sorry for my rant
:coughs:crappy service:coughs:
less than 30 bucks will replace and upgrade and probably end those screen froze rants bout Fedora 10 & 11 sucking and stuff
