Linux Desktop & Laptop tricks & tips

Hi,

I have several Laptops & Desktops setup to use Slackware, my favorite Gnu/Linux.

My Client & LQ Laptop is a Dell XPS l702x with a lap desk to allow me to comfortably use while sitting at my Lazy Boy

First picture shows how the Laptop is setting on the Lap Desk which sets on a Laptop cart. I remove the Lap Desk from the cart when I wish to use the system. Please notice how my external HDs are parked inside a small letter carrier. The drives are connected to a external powered USB 3.0 hub. Laptop cooler is used under the Dell XPS L702x. I came up with this design since I do spend a lot of time at my system. All support subsystems are mounted to the Lap desk using Velcro.

Notice the medicine bottles on right side, I use these to store USB Thumb drives, SDHC and other small adapters. I keep the medical gel packs inside the bottles to limit damage because of humidity. This protects the edge connectors from the environment.

Several iPads and tablets for various duties. Even my smartphone is used to interact with clients.

Second picture is a front view. Notice my beautiful Big screen and Laptop position which allows me to use everything while keeping up with the world and relax watching Golf and now some football.

In my rec room downstairs there is a similar setup for when I need to be in the MAN cave. Plus the bar is near by and a short walk to the frig for a beer. Otherwise I would need to walk all the way to the garage beer frig. I dooo like a beer on occasion. Warning, do not control or modify your Gnu/Linux while drinking!

Just in case, notice the small green ammo box lower left side of the Lazy Boy. I'll leave it up to you to guess what's inside. Protected by S&W!

Do you have any favorite computer hardware tricks or techniques to Share with other LQ Gnu/Linux users?

Me, I set up my motorcycle shop with a dumpster found Emachine 3507 Desktop Computer.
It's Wireless.
Runs AntiX 11 Base Mate & Fluxbox (lxpanels instead of slit)

Used one of these off the headphone jack

Plugged rca ends into input on 200 watt per channel pioneer amplifier from the 1970's that I have had since USMC.

Ceiling speakers in Shop. Xmms to stream internet radio. Amp output also to old RCA Plasma TV , (for sound) with VGA from Computer to VGA on TV. Then watch youtube in shop TV.

Friggin TV just broke though. Something wrong with the ckts in front of the bulb.
Bulb comes on for about 20 seconds and then goes out. No parts available for older 52" RCA TV (out of business I guess).
Might be a ballast board or something in front of that, (I used to do avionics on helicopters). No telling. I might just pull the screen, tear it down, and do https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFw7U7V1Hok for fun since I live in the desert.

No secret!

Just one of many books on quotations. You missed 'The Road to Virtue Resolutions for Daily Living' Which is Inspired by the Wisdom of Ben Franklin & 'DON'T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF.... and it's all small stuff' just below the quotations book. The quotations book in the picture is getting rag eared from daily reads, that's why it is on the fireplace for easy access. You can garnish much from quotations of old!

I love to read when there is time. I do have a good collection of books on Quotations and many books by my favorite American patriots. Plus I like to look at: The Quotations Page

We now have nearly 30 thousand quotations! We're adding new quotes every day and working on the organization of the site. Let us know what we can improve!
I am very proud of my library and it's daily use. Nothing like a good book to relax and inform yourself. Once you learn to read then the world's doors can be opened to the informed. Why do you think some factions do not want their population to be literate?

True. I've always enjoyed reading. Fiction and non-fiction, many genres and subjects. Got a couple of old dictionaries of quotations, too, the Penguin and the Concise Oxford.
