Kicked back to POST after CD loads the kernel

I've tried using 3 different distros (Knoppix 5, Fedora Core 5, and Slax 5) and I always get the same result: After the kernel gets loaded, I get kicked back to the POST. I've tried different CDs burned and read from with different drives with no change at all. Older distros, however, work fine. The only modern distro that does work (that I've tested) is Kubuntu. I doubt it's a problem with the media, software, or the burners because I've used them to burn other OS' (Win2k3 eval, Solaris 10, and NetBSD) which all work fine. Any idea as to what the problem may be?

Welcome to LQ!

It looks like you are trying to boot an i686 distro on an older machine.

Ah, that would certainly do it, since that box's CPU is an i586. Thanks for the info. I suppose I could try building my own with LFS (been iching to give it a spin anyway). Again, thanks.
