Looks like shit


Ok I am running framebuffer-dev cuase my card is not supported like usuall, it is running at 8bit in kde... Is there a way to change it to a higher bit I tried uncomenting in the xf86config the depth and replacing the 8 with a 16 and no go it just refused to load up xwindows.....

Any suggestions?????????????

ok I just looked up the video card for my Viao pcg r505el and it says its an "Intel 830MG" says its 32mb

That card should work. What distro are you using?

Try running this before starting X:
XFree86 -configure
Then if it works it will tell you how to test the new configuration file.

I am using slackware I burned the cd like a month or 2 ago if that tells you what version.........
I tried doing that then starting it with the new file and it started opening and then just showed my mouse I could move it and the screend didnt load up it just froze there

anyone please help I cant stand 8bit color I am going to go insane, that XFree86 thing worked and made a file however when i try to load in with that file instead it just shows my mouse pointer and a screen all in pixles and everything is frozen

you're a step closer to configuring X in that case. . What errors does it throw up when it freezes? What does /var/log/xfree86.0.log (or something similar) look like? How about your XF86Config (you can see where that is from the top of your log file)? Without that info its hard to help.

IT doesnt give me any errors when it freezes it just stars to load up Xwindows then just stops and does nothing /// ANd what do you want to know about the Log file?

just do a "cat /var/log/XFree86.0.log" and post what it spits up, it'll prlly tell you where its hitting the error that locks you up, and mayhaps you can find it in dmesg (though dmesg has a lesser possibility of showing where the errors at)

there is the logfile but is that the right one cuase I am still underframe buffer right now not on the new file cuase it freezes

err, we need the log of when you load the configuration file that freezes as that will tell where the error lies... perhaps
