Difference between Madrake versions

I want to install Mandrake on some old P133s with 32Mb (might be able to get 48MB in them) and 1.5 GB hd. I want the most recent distro that will run at an acceptable speed (clearly 8.x isn't going to cut it). Will 7.x run ok or will I need to reach further back.

I looked for system requirments on Mandrake's site, but had a tough time finding them. (Found the official requirments for 7.x which is PI, 32MB and 500MB).

Are there any versions that I should avoid (buggy).

I would go with 7.x versions.. they should run without any problems on your older machine.. though once installed, you might want to use a lighter desktop environment if using X.. something like wmaker or i like xfce.. very small and fast..

yeah, go for the 7.x versions...

but I'd probably install a distro that is less ram hungry, with a lightweight WM such as IceWM or Enlightenment...

I'd actually use Redhat in that situation, because Mandrake seems a little ram-hungry...
