Automated installer that does not use PXE

Hello,

Looking around for a automated installer environment that does not use PXE; seems like a simple idea but cannot find any good projects currently?

Crowbar is probably the closest?

Basic requirements:

1. Boot off usb or cd for base image instead of pxe.

2. USB or CD would point at a server to get the installation information.

3. No multicast, DHCP or broadcast packets required; this is the biggest issues with PXE in a corporate setting.

4. Assign a static IP

Almost every major distro has a network installer cd that can be used over various transports and protocols. Some hide it still but it should be there. F keys to set parameters.

Maybe make a gpxe/ipxe disk then. Basically it is an updated pxe that you could load into network prom or run off media.
