My ATI card works fine with MandrakeLinux 10.1 OE. For a few days I thought it didn't, but then I discovered it was my BIOS power-management settings that were causing my monitor to act up (not the monitor settings, either, but the hard-drive ones--for some reason when one of the hard drives would spin down to save power, some function needed for correct display wasn't readily available next time it got called for, and the display got messed up).
After I set the power management to not spin down the hard drives, display is just fine.
So Mandrake 10.1 will work at least with the oldish ATI Rage card in my computer.
Nikolas!
Who do you post the question to??
If conserning the 9000 then you do not need commercial drivers. Proper tweaking makes it work even faster than supplied on ATI site. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...58#post1376058
I did obtain a kernel patch along the way that was supposed to improve ATI support under Mdk 10.1 OE. This was thanks to a suggestion on LQ where I was posting about my difficulties with the display getting messed up. That thread, should anyone be interested, is at
the distro that i had to do the least work to get ati drivers working was yoper. but there was still a problem. all you have to do to install on yoper is "apt-get install fglrx" then "fglrxconfig" and you have to edit one line in your xfree86 config file. but its documented on the forums. If you are having problems with ati card installation goto rage3d linux forum.
if you have any problems with them there is a fix about 1/3 the way down on this page http://www.yoper.com/forum2/index.ph...pic=1702&st=30
I am using Linux with my laptop, I have an ATI mobility radeon, FC3 notices it but I don't like FC3 as it's unstable and I prefer to use mandake 10.0, can I download the drivers from the net somewhere?

Chances are one of the ATI drivers furnished with Mandrake (probably better use 10.1 Official Edition, not 10.0) will work. There are over a dozen ATI drivers standard with Mandrake, including at least one Mobility one.
