how to realize automount(direct)

Hi,everyone:
The os I use is redhat enterprise 3 update 4, I want to automount some NFS resource on unix (solaris ),I had shared the resource on unix system.
On linux system ,
Firest,I edit the file /etc/auto.master and add the following line:
/- /etc/auto.direct

Second ,I edit the file /etc/auto.direct
/pubic -rw ns3000:/ns3000/public
(ns3000 is the system of unix which share directory /ns3000/public)

Third, I create the directory /public on the linux system

Fourth,I execute the file /etc/init.d/autofs
/etc/init.d/autofs stop
/etc/init.d/autofs start
but the following error is displayed
Starting automount: no mountpoints defined

What I can do ,who can help me ,thanks a lot.
I am waiting online .
