I don't know how much this will help:
I am running a HD install of Knoppix 3.9 (the 2.6 kernel) and I managed to get a Linksys WPC11v4 (Realtek 8180 chipset) partially working, using ndiswrapper. Here's how I did it:
<I will put all variable names in brackets>
(This assumes you are relatively new at Linux. If you aren't, please let me know of a better way of doing it)
(IMPORTANT!!!!! Knoppix is a Live CD. When you shutdown/restart, ALL THESE STEPS ARE ERASED!!!. I would recommend saving a configuration to a USB key, but that is not covered here. Keep that in mind...)
Do this BEFORE you start Knoppix
Download
this. Get the Windows XP driver. Extract and save to a folder on you HD. (the .sys and .inf files)
1) Start Knoppix, and let it load (I had version 3.9, but should work on others)
2) Open Konsole (on the bottom taskbar)
3) Type su (This gives you root privileges)
4) Suggestion-Make a password. Type passwd, type and re-type a password.
5) Mount the Windows HD. Click on Hard Disk Device (hda1) or something similar on the desktop. It will mount and load in konqueror. You can quit Knoqueror.
6) In Konsole, type
Code:
ndiswrapper -i </mnt/hda1></FOLDERNAME/rtl8180.inf>
7) Type ndiswrapper -l. You should see:
Code:
Installed ndis drivers:
net8180-Driver installed, hardware installed
8) type modprobe ndiswrapper
9) type ifconfig wlan0 up
10) type ifconfig wlan0 <192.168.1.100>
11) ndiswrapper -m to set up permanent alias
Hope this is helpful. NOTE: As of now, I have not managed to get the general web working. However, I will probably know by the end of this day. I will post when I do.
