There seem to be an awful lot of these types of posts - would it be easier if there was a survey done every couple of months, or if we have to tick a box in our profiles, for what distro(s) we are running. The results could then have their own page and anyone interested could go there.
Many of these posts tend to overlap so at any one time you may have 4 or 5 like this going.
Here is a better thought. Read the post first and try to understand the meaning before passing judgement.
The meaning of this post is to request/suggest that people provide the distro they are using when they ask for help. By providing this information to people helping they will more likely get the right answer.
So here is my follow up the the original post. Please feel free to move it to where ever you deem appropriate but please read and understand this one before moving. OK. Here it is. Second suggestion/request:
Please read a post to the forum and try to understand the mean before answer a question that wasn't asked.
That's it. Real easy and everyone is happy.
1. If you are going to ask a question here then provide the distro you are using since this will help your helpers.
2. If you are going to answer a question here then READ the question and try to understand it before you attempt to provide an answer.
Not trying to be mean or anything but this whole discussion is a complete waste of resources. Thank you.
It is very hard to provide information to people. even the sticky threads have to actually be read manually, with your eyes, in order for the information to get to them The smart questions guide in my sig has so so much good advice about mailing lists and forums, but... you gotta read it still, and if people don't want to read even the rules, then there's not really an effectiove way to get information to them, without doing things that might be considered intrusive or insulting, such as automatically emailing docs to new members...
