Does anybody know whether to expect a version of RedHat that includes the 2.4 kernel, or should I just stick with Mandrake 8?

RedHat recently released the 'Wolverine' beta. Get more info from http://www.redhat.com/apps/download/beta/rhl.html

but, if it ain't broke...

dont forget SuSe 7.1, this ships with 2.4 Kernel

The latest version that has been released and you can download now, not sure about retail sale yet, but it is being offered with the latest kernel 2.4
