Unhappy Red Hat 7.2 Kernel Compile Help

I am trying to install a module for my ZIP drive into my Red Hat 7.2 kernel. I need to know where the .config file that was created when linux was first installed is located. I want to be able to recompile my kernel with everything EXACTLY the way it was except for adding the new ppa module. Whenever I say "make xconfig", it appears that only the default options are selected, and not the ones that describe my system. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
