rebooting directly to another distro from current distro's logout window

I know PCLinuxOS (and possibly other distros) has a useful feature of being able to boot into another distro from the logout screen, bypassing the bootloader's distro selection screen. Would there be any way to add that feature to a distro that doesn't have it? Perhaps with a script? (If so, I'd write one, but I don't know how to write scripts.)

I guess you can write a script that will edit grub or lilo's menu to change the default boot OS and then reboot the computer
