Totally agreed. I don't use Debian based distro's (except q4os) since generally they don't actually offer anything that base Debian doesn't already. Q4os gets the pass because Trinity isn't available in Debian's repos, so it offers something that isn't avaiable otherwise. Every other debian based distro for me offers nothing I can't already do with Debian.

Update to Linux distro on a Dell device

It’s been a little over a year since the original thread and I was wondering if anyone had comments on their experiences with Dell notebooks.
A couple of thoughts here:
I have a Dell Latitude e6230 i7 with 16gb of ram and a 1tb wd ssd. With windows 10 the only upgrade available and windows 11 not working due to its Tpm 1.2 and a not supported processor, I thought this would be a good time to migrate to Linux. Running windows 10 now with vmware guest os's that I use.
My only real requirement is the need to run vmware workstation. I had heard of issues with ssd trim and sleep modes. I like Debian distros and had done a couple of arch installs as well. So any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Nb

I used to love Dell Business line of laptops. I've owned well over a hundred in the 20+ years of my using laptops. Currently, though, I wouldn't buy one. While there's nothing inherently WRONG with them, they don't offer the value of Lenovo's line. Why? Lenovo you can get AMD's CPU's which are simply more efficient with more cores, more threads, and lower energy usage than Intel offers right now.

SSD Trim hasn't been an issue with MOST drives and linux in a fair amount of years. Some of the newer sleep states are still issues with Linux, although most machines they can be made to work eventually.
