I have tried many linux distros, Slackware, Debian, Redhat, Mandrake, Suse, and many others. Im a big slackware user, now i switched to Crux, This is definitly the best distro ever, Its alot more difficult to configure and install then slackware, but it is ultra fast very basic, Understandable Directory Hiearchy, and is not bloated one bit, I would like to hear some of ur comments about the distro
so crux is worth it? i've gotten sick of gentoo and it's crazy stuff. i love slack for it's simplicity, and crux seems to have the benefit of slack but with a better package management. hope this is how it works in reality

Well I've finally got Crux installed and working about a 3 days. I'm beginning to like it and will be playing around with it alot to get the hang of the ports & package system.
I never got around to trying Crux but I use Arch. From what I understand Arch would be a little bit easier to set up because at least as long as the supplied kernel works, you don't need to compile your own. Also I think Pacman is bit more useful and better integrated into the system than package tools in Crux, which I understand do not provide any dependency checking (I believe there is a tool in Crux that does, but it is not the part of the core system)
Also, I remember on some forum someone complaining useradd command in Crux was broken, and it was very difficult to create users - this really put me off, because it is such a core function that's been around as long as Unix itself, and it really *should* work reliably by now!

Both Crux and Arch have package management. Arch has binary packages, while the Crux package manager pulls package sources from each application homepage and builds it (as far as I know, it was I while since i used Crux). This gives Arch the advantage of not having to build packages when you install or update them (there are tools to do this as well though). Crux is a great learning experience. As with Gentoo you should beware with overly aggressive optimizations if you want a stable system.
Crux = best linux distro I have ever user, period, finally a distro where a base system is actually a BASE system, its bare-boned package management system is simply great, and configuration is done through vi, just the way it's meant to be done... quoting da Vinci: "Simplicity is the highest form of sophistication"
The only thing I don't like about it is the long source compilation times just like those that come from installing Gentoo. Once you get it installed and tweaked, it's as solid as anything I've ever used.

Any suggestions or hints for a Crux newbie?
Thnx.
Since this post, this is an old thread, I've gotten it working awhile ago and really enjoyed till my hard drive crashed but haven't installed it since.
I may give it another go sometimes soon. I think its a good distro once you get it installed.
