I googled for "Powerbook 5300cs linux" and came up with this site. It directs you to a small PPC distro called MkLinux that says your powerbook is supported...

That requires hooking the HDD up to something else...can I hook up a Mac HDD to a PC?

I've found puppy to my liking as a rescue, though DSL is just as good in this regard;I haven't used either as a regular OS.....yet.
