Operating system not found

I've got an old Dell Dimension 233Mhz computer that I decided to put Linux on. The installation went fine, but BIOS always reports "Operating system not found.". I've had this problem in the past and figured the CMOS battery was going, so I replaced it, but it didn't seem to help. I've always solved the problem by going into BIOS and re-entering the hard drive info because it would sometimes get lost. I checked the BIOS log and it shows an undated CMOS checksum error. The settings no longer reset, but it won't boot from the hard drive at all.

Thanks in advance,

John

I had that happen a while back, reinstalling the OS seemed to do the trick, that and checking that all the IDE connections were tight.

Hope this helps

Could be a loose cable.

Might also be the tread has worn out on your hard drive and all the data slid off.

There's been times where I've had this happen and I had a floppy disk in the drive. Normally I cuss really, really loud when I get the error then feel stupid, yet relieved, when I figure out what I did.
