I got an old PC I am using as a game server (Counter Strike and Left 4 Dead), it's a dual core Athlon 5000+ with 2GB Ram, the motherboard is kinda old and has a SiS Chipset with terrible graphics causing the video to flicker at somewhat high resolutions (anything above 1280x1024 will cause problems).
I decided to add a Geforce 8400GS just so I don't have to deal with that terrible onboard VGA, upon installing the card I noticed the VNC is unusable, awfully slow over a 1gbps lan. I have installed the kmod drivers and it hasn't changed anything.
The computer works perfect locally, I tried to remove the VGA card and VNC got back working normally.
your profile says slac but this is in a fedora part of the forum ?
so is this fedora you are having trouble with ? and what version ?
and have you read the official fedora nvidia install guide ? http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=204752
and did you blacklist the default open "nouveau" driver ?
and if you have two cards ( onr built in )you NEED to make a xorg.conf and turn off the built in chip
Yes I'm running Fedora lol. (Still use slackware also).
Fedora 13.
I have followed every steps installing the nvidia driver however I did not know I had to turn off the onboard video. I thought it is automatic? I get no video output on the onboard video.
Doesn't seem to be remote only issue, was just a matter of coincidence whenever I tried to use the remote vnc viewer. The computer is AWFULLY slow! Even after removing the addon card now. I just killed the X and it fixed the problem, is it the nouveau driver that I haven't black listed? I am pretty sure the nvidia drivers are installed and working, I do see the nvidia logo, control panel and everything else.
Thanks!
*EDIT:
I still get unresponsiveness issues in the pure text console... Ouch... WTH is it?!
