ldconfig

I am brand new to linux, so don't freak if I ask a lamer question.

First off, I see that I need to manually run LDCONFIG pretty much anytime I install anything whatsoever.

Problem is when I type LDCONFIG it says, "not found"

I know it's installed on my system, I've seen it being used during makes

Also, I installed "EVERYTHING" from the DVD for Fedora Core 3, so it better be on my system.

What do I need to do so I can run LDCONFIG whenever I want to?

Do I need to add something to my path? How do I add stuff to my path, and where in the f&ck is my path?

Thanks in advance.

I guess I can just type:

$ldconfig

and then it runs, so that's what I did.

Traverse to your home directory (cd ~/). Type ls -la. See the file called .bash_profile? Edit the line in that file that reads...
PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin
change so that it looks like this ....
PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:/sbin
That is a : that is separating the paths btw.
Now open ~/.bashrc
add

PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:/sbin
export PATH

save both
Exit the shell and reopen it, you should be all set...

btw... ldconfig is located in /sbin

You got that error coz ldconfig is run as root. If you do

su -c "/sbin/ldconfig"

as a normal user and enter your systems root password, it should work fine for you.
