I upgrade SID like I do every week using apt-get, only this time it leaves me with realy ugly fonts in the console (root and user).
Is there anyway to get the standard fonts restored?
Strange. Some others have had that errror too, but not me.
My configuration:
Code:
Package: console-tools
Version: 1:0.2.3dbs-55
-- System Information:
Debian Release: 3.1
APT prefers unstable
APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (50, 'experimental')
Architecture: i386 (i686)
Kernel: Linux 2.4.25c
Locale: LANG=fi_FI@euro, LC_CTYPE=fi_FI@euro
Versions of packages console-tools depends on:
ii console-common 0.7.47 Basic infrastructure for text cons
ii debconf 1.4.30 Debian configuration management sy
ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-16 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an
ii libconsole 1:0.2.3dbs-55 Shared libraries for Linux console
ii sysvinit 2.86-1 System-V like init
What versions of those packages you have? Also, what kernel are you using?
ToniT, if you don't mind will you please post how you were able to obtain all that system info. It'd be really useful for those new to linux and debian. That way those of us helping can refer them to this post to get the commands needed to get the info we need to help.

-thanks
The first bit looks like the start of the apt-cache showpkg console-tools command snipped.
Well, I was lazy and picked that information by (ab)using the command
Code:
reportbug --template console-tools
. The idea of the reportbug tool is to ready a bugreport for some package, in this case for console-tools. The --template parameter does that it doesn't ask any questions relevant to the bug or show you some earlier bugreports or send any mail, but just outputs the template for the report. A package called reportbug has to be installed for reportbug command to work.
To find the console-tools package I used
Code:
dlocate consolechars
to find which package contains the consolechars program. dlocate can be replaced with dpkg -S, but it is much slower.
All the information seen can also be fetched also by using commands
uname -a, apt-cache policy, apt-cache depends and dpkg -l, but it contains more work.
Sorry for late responce! Still have this prob so lets see if we can get it fix.
You asked for versions of libconsole, sysvinit, console-common, debconf, etc Well I use SID so those should (and are) latest versions. I checked if I got all those installed and yes.....but I still get the same error. I use the 2.8.6 kernel btw.
