I got a set of Connectiva CDs from someone a while back, and I was really excited about trying it out because I had heard that Connectiva could handle both RPM and Deb forms of packaging, and that the very appealing synaptic package actually came from the Connectiva development. So I was really looking forward to using the distro.
Unfortunately, when I installed it, though the installation seemed to go very smoothly, I could not see a way to install support for my Ethernet Card (a Sniper Fast Ethernet Adapter that uses the Realtek 8139too Ethernet driver), nor could I figure out how to set up a DHCP network client. Because of these things, I never did anything with Connectiva.
I assumed that such things happened because the distro focuses on networks in Central America, where there may not be much DHCP or Ethernet networks. I'm hoping that I'm very wrong about all of this.
Can anyone tell me if Connectiva can support Ethernet and DHCP? If so, how, and in which release?
What's thew version of conectiva you got? Every version I already worked (since 5.0), it has support to Ethernet cards and DHCP, but I believe that support was there since begging. Conectiva was a Red Hat based distribution in the start ...
I recommend you to try a new release, or snapshot, to check if still don't recognizes your card, and if don't, we can help you to check it out to see what is going wrong ...

see ya
Thanks! I'll give it another try since you believe that the support is there and should be there. If I run into trouble again, I'll drop you a note. I believe it was V7.0 that I tried at first; can't recall if I also tried out 8.0 or not.
Conectiva can be set up as a dhcp client in the installation or via linuxconf (if the system is running).
run linuxconf as root and see the network options.
I recomend you to use Conectiva 8 (because is the last release), but dhcp work without problems in any release.
