4MLinux as VirtualBox guest - how can I install VirtualBox Guest Additions?

Guest machine won't mount the Guest Additions ISO, so I've copied VBoxLinuxAdditions.run from the host into the guest.

Tried adding the "Devel" extension, which fixed requests for GCC, make & Perl, but it still asks for current kernel headers...

Guest is 4MLinux 26.0, host Lubuntu 18.04.

Hi,

https://sourceforge.net/projects/lin...rs/virtualbox/

You can also find it on the 4MLinux installation CD.

Small comment on these errors. Some time ago I saw them, too. They mean: "I want to compile kernel modules for you, but I cannot find the Linux kernel sources." The question is why VirtualBox produces somewhat strange message about kernel headers, which, in fact, are not missing

Well, if the kernel headers are not really missing at all, then maybe the problem is that this is a very new release of 4MLinux - I'll wait a while to see if VirtualBox catches up...

I am also unable to get Virtualbox Guest Additions to work, even though I used the ISO file at the referenced SourceForge link.

Here's the error I'm getting:

/usr/sbin/vbox-uninstall-guest-additions: line 9 /opt/VirtualBoxGuestAdditions-5.2.18 /uninstall.sh: No such file or directory

I don't see an uninstall.sh file on the ISO.

I must be missing something, but could use some help figuring out what it is...

Thanks.

I have no idea why you are not using the original 4MLinux packages.
And this is why I am unable to help you.

There are the following two packages for 4MLinux 26.0:
the main package (addon_vb.tar.xz): ftp://dl.4mlinux.com/
the optional guest ISO: https://sourceforge.net/projects/lin...rs/virtualbox/

The problem is that none of them includes the /usr/sbin/vbox-uninstall-guest-additions script mentioned in your post...

Thanks - I was unaware of the main package (addon_vb.tar.xz) you referenced in your last post. Will give it a try. Perhaps I won't get the same error I got last time...

It's probably much simpler than you think. On newly installed 4MLinux:
Menu > Extensions > SysApps > VirtualBox
A terminal window will be opened:

Code:
This will download and install VirtualBox.
Do you wish to continue (y/n)?:
Confirm the installation and wait till it is finished.
Done! VirtualBox is now up and running.

Optionally, you can also install the guest ISO package, which can be found on the 4MLinux installation CD (in the drivers folder) or online.

Sorry I didn't answer for a while - I was out of town with no access to my desktop PC.

I'm not looking to install Virtualbox in 4MLinux. The 4MLinux installation is a VirtualBox Guest. I was unable to install VirtualBox Guest Additions in the Guest so I can change the size of the Guest Window, copy to/from the host clipboard, and share files/folders with the host. This is my ultimate goal.

I tried to install Guest Additions the normal way and got all manner of errors. That is when I ran into this thread and thought perhaps 4MLinux had a custom Guest Additions ISO which i had to install from. I wasn't successful here either.

Sorry if I'm confusing. 4MLinux sounds like a neat distro, and I'd really like to try out JWM too, but it would be much easier if I could have it full screen and easily copy files to/from the host...

Now I understand. However, such a custom ISO (mentioned in your last post) does not exist.

Thanks for your interest in 4MLinux!
