Can I hold kernel upgrades back (ubuntu updater)

Hello.
One thing which has annoyed me greatly is that the ubuntu updater also updates the kernel by default.
This is especially annoying on my macbook laptop since that forces me to manually re-add grub lines and MOST IMPORTANTLY: re-compile the madwifi driver modules for each new kernel upgrade

Is there a way to hold back kernel updates and avoid these things ?

(the madwifi drivers in feisty aren't new enough to support my chipset, thats why I do a manual compile)

The obvious method is just not to use the updater. You can choose not to update named packages in aptitude.

Personally I have just managed to hold back a kernel upgrade simply by unchecking the boxes.

I know that unchecking a few boxes can circumvent the problem. But I'll still have to keep some textfiles detailing the extra arguments for grub and the madwifi sources just in case I update it by mistake.

There's really no way of telling e.g. apt to hold off upgrading kernels ?
