I am running through the howto for setting up a secure relaying e-mail server. They talk about setting services in xinetd. I know for slackware we have inetd. I tried setting up a couple fo scripts:

they talk about setting up a script /etc/xinetd.d/pop3s so I tried setting up a script called /etc/rc.d/rc.pop3s.

Here are the contents of the script:

server = /usr/sbin/stunnel
server_args = -v3 -l/usr/sbin/ipop3d
log_on_success += HOST DURATION
log_on_failure += HOST
}
===================================

The problem was when I tried to run pop3s it failed with the messages:

./rc.pop3s: line 1: service: command not found
disable: Unable to connect to server: Connection refused
./rc.pop3s: line 4: socket_type: command not found
./rc.pop3s: line 5: wait: `=': not a pid or valid job spec
./rc.pop3s: line 5: wait: `no': not a pid or valid job spec
./rc.pop3s: line 6: user: command not found
./rc.pop3s: line 7: server: command not found
./rc.pop3s: line 8: server_args: command not found
./rc.pop3s: line 9: log_on_success: command not found
./rc.pop3s: line 10: log_on_failure: command not found

The documentation does not say anything about "service" being distro specific, but I am betting that it is, so I am trying to figure out how to set up the "service" under slackware.

Make sense? Any Suggestion?

The files in xinetd.d are configuration files and not bash scripts. You will need to create an entry in /etc/inetd.conf rather than a file.
