back in the day I remember using old 7.04 to do something like that , but 8.10 was more stable...

I did EXACTLY what you had written. The results were slightly different, and as a few reboots...
It still doesn't work.

{sigh}

I will keep working on this, though.

Have yourself a wonderful day!

By not showing us your input/output from running inxi, you're potentially holding back information that could help us help you. I see nothing in this thread that tells us which NVidia GPU you have, or how it's connected to what kind of display(s).

In desperation, tried to use the NVIDIA proprietary driver, I had to do a reboot, and the reboot "stuck" waiting for CUPS to load/run/whatever.

Question: if my printer is turned off, would actually turning the printer ON resolve that problem?

{PS: I will have to get some logs of the last try, and post them on LinuxQuestions}

Have yourself a wonderful day!

I think people are asking you to post the output of this command: inxi -GSxxz

{crapcrapcrap}

I "sucked it up", and yet again I tried to use the proprietary Nvidia driver.
BUT, just today I did this three times, and every time I did this, I tried to reboot and it ALWAYS wiped out my passwords. I tried three different ways to do this, and I had to reinstall it all over again.

{PS: I have become good at the install process}

THUS, Nvidia does NOT support Linux, according to Linus Torvalds.

So, yet again I am still looking for, via Debian packages, to get graphics WITHOUT using the proprietary Nvidia driver.

I have used a lightweight Desktop... so there is that.

Yet again, I think it was on Debian bullseye, but I CANNOT remember the packages.

There is another option: I could move to Devuan...... but I do love Debian.

Thank you for reading my panicked nonsense, and have yourself a glorious day!

One option you have that may help is to provide information previously requested: inxi -GSaz --vs. You haven't provided any of your NVidia GPU's details. I have 5 NVidia GPUs running on 100% Bookworm and/or Trixie - no NVidia drivers, example of which in post #15 here. NVidia's own support for Linux may be less than desired, but that doesn't stop Debian users from being able to use NVidia's GPUs entirely using FOSS.

OK, I have been putting my self with hell with this issue, but here is an answer that someone asked about a week ago.

I response to the "inxi -Szxx": the answer is:

System:
Kernel: 6.1.0-21-amd64 arch: x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 12.2.0
Desktop: KDE Plasma v: 5.27.5 tk: Qt v: 5.15.8 wm: kwin_x11 dm: LightDM
Distro: Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm)

I hope that it is helpful.

Have yourself a wonderful day!

As your issue is about graphics, -Fxz provides a lot of useless info, as you say, while providing an incomplete list of details useful for graphics troubleshooting. As indicated in comment #22, inxi -GSaz --vs would be helpful. -Fxz and -Szxx inxi option sets provide no display connectivity information, among other graphics omissions.

Also, whenever you paste here input/output from running commands, please try to remember to wrap the paste in code tags to preserve the original formatting of commands' output.

It shows you're running two displays @1920x1080 each using only FOSS drivers. However something is missing, shown by dri: swrast where dri: nouveau is expected. Also, OpenGL shows llvmpipe instead of direct rendering. I have no NVidia GPUs anywhere as new as yours, so don't know what you might be missing for that to happen. What firmware, mesa, nvidia, vulkan and nouveau packages do you have installed?:
Code:
# sudo dpkg-query -W | egrep 'mesa|mwar|vidia|veau|vulk' | sort
Also, what exactly is the trouble you are encountering?
