Debian 12 does not see Brother scanner.

I have a recent Debian 12 net installed on desktop with 2 printers, one is a Samsung M2835DW and the other is a Brother DCP-1510 (printer/scanner).
The 2 printers are working as expected but the OS seems not to see the scanner of the Brother printer giving the message:
Code:
No device available
The only things I could think of was to unplug and replug the device, reinstall SANE & XSANE and run uninstall-scanner.sh then run install-scanner.sh again from the
Code:
UnifiedLinuxDriver-1.00.36.tar.gz
all of which made no difference.

CUPS found the Brother printer and processed it successfully.

The reason I have the 2 printers is because a tiny insect seems to have being caught while printing and leaves a small dark mark every few centimeters down the printed page.
Before installing Debian 12, I backedup the Download directory which I copied after the install so that any other file necessary to find the scanner was there as used under the previous distro.

Can anyone suggest how to fix the scanner problem? It was working under the previous distros (Debian 9 and 10).

Thank you for your help.

rblampain,

Go to Brother Support and search for Downloads & Drivers for DCP-1510.

Select Linux (deb).

Then select either Driver Install Tool or the appropriate scanner driver below this.

Ensure the Brother DCP-1510 is securely connected to your Debian machine using a USB cable. Verify that your user has permission to access the scanner device. Try running the scanner commands with sudo. If this works, you might need to adjust group permissions for the scanner device.
Use the scanimage -L command to list available scanners. Look for a device name that might correspond to your Brother scanner. While Debian 12 uses the SANE framework for scanner support, Brother might offer additional drivers for their scanners. [mod removed]

This is on the Samsung M2835DW laser's prints?

I don't think the mark is an insect, it sounds like you have a "ding" on the photoconductive drum which shows as a recurring mark every few centimeters down the page. The distance between the marks depends on the circumference of the drum.
The PC drum is built into the toner cartridge, there's a shutter covering it which opens on installation in the printer to prevent exposure as it's light sensitive. (It's also carcinogenic so don't touch it! Also, the sweat from your fingers would cause a fingerprint to be printed the same distance apart as the "ding" if you did.)

How to fix it? Replace the toner cartridge.

Hope this helps someone.

Play Bonny!
